Khavn on .MOV & The Digital Revolution

How many years of film school do you need to become a filmmaker?
“The truth is, you don’t need to learn anything. You already know what you need to know. End of school. The only question you need to answer is do you want to make a film? If no, then don’t. If yes, then make one.”

How can you make films in a Third World country?
"Especially in a third world country like the Philippines , there's no other way to make your own films. There are other routes, but the vision suffers or vanishes totally. You get the usual formulas. That's not the point.”

What’s so great about digital?
“The medium is literally open to everyone. Anyone can just grab a camera and tell their story. Today's digital film tools are empowering new and underground filmmakers to tell the stories they've been longing to tell without having to sell their souls."

.MOV 2008. What’s going on?
"More and more independent filmmakers are enticed to make films because of the liberating qualities of the medium. Here in .MOV, the films may not have big budgets or they may not feature big stars. What we have instead are storytellers with good stories to tell.”
