Asia Pacific Archiving Experts’ conference in Manila

    Archivists, librarians, museum curators, film enthusiasts, academicians, students and collectors will gather in Manila for the 12th Conference of the Southeast Asia Pacific Audio Visual Archive Association (SEAPAVAA). The Conference theme is “Archiving and Digitization: Dreams and Nightmares.”

    Hosted by the Philippine Information Agency in partnership with the Society of Filipino Archivists, the Society of Film Archivists and the Department of Foreign Affairs, the conference will be held at the Manila Hotel on June 23 and June 24.

    Archiving experts will be discussing the impact of digital technology to archiving practices: storage strategies, managing digital collection, back up and disaster planning, digital provenance and authenticity, training digital archivists, transcoding and upconverting and other issues.

    Participating in the symposia are internationally recognized audio visual archiving experts such as Kevin Bradley, Ray Edmondson and Mick Newnham from Australia, Jim Lindner and Joshua Harris from the USA, James Loway, Brigette Paulowitz and Reto Kromer from Switzerland and James Lean from New Zealand.

    The conference is supported by UNESCO-Philippines, the National Commission for the Culture and the Arts, Mowelfund, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Kapisanan ng mga Broadcaster sa Pilipinas, National Library, Records Management & Archives Office, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines.
