“Ambulancia” to compete anew in another Greek filmfest

Richard Legaspi's "Ambulancia" has been selected to compete at the 10th International Panorama of Independent Film and Video Makers – International Film Festival of Patras, which will run from September 21 to 29 at the Lithografeion Theatre at Patras City in Greece.

This was relayed by festival director Chionidis Panagiotis in his official invitation to Legaspi, a faculty of the University of the East (UE) College of Fine Arts and a fellow of South Korea's Asian Film Academy, an educational program that trains aspiring Asian filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts through workshops, one-on-one mentoring and a short film production project to raise the bar on film production to further the future of Asian cinema.

The 10th International Panorama is organized by the non-profit company International Panorama of Independent Creators in cooperation with the web magazine for culture, Cineek under the aegis of the Patras University.

"Ambulancia" tells of a painful twist in an ambulance driver's belief that a dying patient can be saved by running over stray animals on the streets. It previously won the grand prize in the Viva – Pinoy Box Office (PBO) Digitales 2 short film competition and the best short narrative in the first Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival for Health.

Starring Filipino character actor Alan Paule and theater regular Nor Domingo, the short film competed at the Naoussa International Film Festival in Greece and was also screened at the AFA 2007 Fellows' Night in Busan, South Korea, Young Cinema Night of the 9th Cinemanila International Film Festival, and second CineVita Film Festival.

Meanwhile, "Ambulancia" will be shown at the fourth Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival along with Ogi Sugatan's "Ang Kapalaran ni Virgin Mario" (The Fate of Virgin Mario), Grace Orbon's "Dead Letter," Anna Isabelle Matutina's "Ika-siyam na Palapag" (Ninth Floor), Seymour Barros Sanchez's "Lababo" (Kitchen Sink), John Wong's "Manyika" (Doll), Sanchez's "Pagbugtaw" (Waking Up), and Matutina's "Walong Linggo" (Eight Sundays).

The special screening, dubbed as "KATORSE: Best of Indie Sine Shorts '08," is scheduled on July 17, Thursday, 6:15 P.M. at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Little Theater.

Tickets to the screenings cost P50 to students and P100 otherwise. For more information about the short films and the filmmakers, please visit the group's website at http://katorseshorts.wordpress.com.
