Hear the call of love in this year’s Cinema One Originals festival finalist “Paano Ko Sasabihin.”
Written and directed by Richard Legaspi, “Paano Ko Sasabihin” stars Enchong Dee and Erich Gonzales this time in a romantic comedy where anything can happen without a certain outcome. An inner story reels within its main story with so much laughter. Call this a chance meeting between two strangers who can ‘hear’ the call of love by using their hearts. “Paano Ko Sasabihin” asks: What if the attractive deaf guy you met inside the metro train or LRT thought you too were deaf? Could you be ready to act like one so as not to turn him off? All for the name of romance, two individuals are entangled in a roller coaster ride of lies for the sake of love, or is it love covered with lies?
Richard Legaspi is a filmmaker and producer who is a faculty member in the UE College of Fine Arts Caloocan and a fellow of the 2007 Asian Film Academy in South Korea. His short film “Kahon” became the official entry to the 2006 Viewpoints of the World Festival, finalist in the End Frame Video Art Project, in competition at the 2006 One Minute International Short Film Festival (OMISFF), Netherlands, and finalist in the Smart Cuts of 2005 .MOV International Short Film Festival. His one-minute movie “Pintuan” was also a finalist in the 60-Seconder Short Film Category of the 2005 .MOV. Another short film he helmed “Makatang Luneta” placed third at the 2006 Cinemadali Film Festival. But it was his fourth narrative, the novelty melodrama “Ambulancia” starring Alan Paule and Nor Domingo, which really hoisted Legaspi to prominence. It won in the Festival Internazionale del Cortometraggio San Gio in Verona, Italy. He is also the first Filipino filmmaker invited to the 32nd Film Festival Weiterstadt in Germany and first Asian filmmaker nominated in Grand OFF European Film Awards in Warsaw, Poland. “Ambulancia” was also nominated and competed in Pyongyang (North Korea), Berlin (Germany), Vienna (Austria), Budapest (Hungary), Bradford (United Kingdom), Patras and Naoussa (Greece), Talinn (Estonia) and Cinemanila International Film Festival. Last year, it won the Best Short Narrative Movie in the First Quisumbing-Escandor Film Festival for Health held at the Philamlife Center for the Arts in Manila.
“Paano Ko Sasabihin,” which also stars Geraldine Tan, Johann Alcantara, Ian Viktor, Mikhail Lawrence Hirang, and Zernan Mataya, will premiere on November 14, Saturday, 7:30 p.m. and has another screening on November 16, Monday, 9:10 p.m. at Cinema 9, Gateway Cineplex 10, Araneta Center, Cubao. It is part of the 2009 Cinema One Originals Digital Movie Festival, which runs from November 13 to 17, in its continuing celebration of 15 years of being the top movie cable channel in the Philippines. The awards night will be held on November 15 at the Dolphy Theater of ABS-CBN.
“Paano Ko Sasabihin,” with “Maximus & Minimus,” “Wanted: Border,” “Si Baning, Si Maymay at ang Asong Si Bobo,” and “Bala Bala” are produced and owned by Cinema One and Creative Programs, Inc, through its annual Cinema One Originals project.
