In anticipation of the forthcoming National Arts and Culture Month observed every February and as a way to cap its New Year of Auteurs series, the UP Film Institute pays tribute to the golden era of the country’s counter-stream cinema with a distinct special presented in cooperation with the Mowelfund Film Institute to hallmark a significant number of breakthrough short films regarded now as classics from some of the most celebrated names of the indie movement.

To kick off the special is an all-Raymond Red program this Monday, 25 January 2010, at 5 and 7 p.m. Four of Red’s early shorts are in showcase, namely, Ang Magpakailanman, Kabaka, Pelikula and A Study for “The Skies.” Everybody is enjoined to catch the not-to-be-missed screenings. Free admission is in store for all UP students enrolled in any of the film courses under the UP College of Mass Communication upon presentation of their respective Form 5 and valid ID.

Succeeding screenings up to early March encompass further programs to also highlight works by Joey Agbayani, Juan and Miguel Alcazaren, Patrick Purugganan, Noel Lim, Nonoy Dadivas, Louie Quirino, Larry Manda, Regiben Romana, Jon Red, Yam Laranas plus more.
