MANILA, Philippines — The Cinemalaya Kids’ Treat jury picked Rommel Tolentino’s short film, “P,” as the recently concluded festival’s Best Film for Children “for delightful and creative depiction of a young boy struggling with bullies and a grouchy aunt.”
Special Jury Prize was shared by three entries: Gutierrez Mangansakan II’s “Limbunan” (New Breed Full Length category), Jay Altarejos’ “Pink Halo-Halo” (Directors’ Showcase), and Pam Miras’ “Wag Kang Titingin” (Shorts).
“Limbunan” was cited for “insightful and sensitive portrayal of a Maguindanao girl’s mixed feelings about her pre-arranged marriage”; “Pink Halo-Halo,” for making the audience “confront a young boy’s raw anguish over his soldier-father’s death”; and “Wag Kang Titingin” for “its haunting visual narration of how violence affects children in a war-torn area.”
The Audience Choice award went to Robert Quilao’s animated fantasy “Dayo.”
The jury was composed of Alice Panares, Luis Gatmaitan, Elmar Ingles and Alma Quinto.
