MANILA, Philippines—Mark Meily’s Cinemalaya winner, “Donor,” won Best Film and lead star Meryl Soriano, Best Actress, in the Brussels International Festival of Independent Film held Nov. 7.
Soriano, who attended the event in Belgium, told the Inquirer that she felt “proud to be Filipino.”
She said, “Apart from the trophies of ‘Donor,’ director Brillante Mendoza was given the Visionary Award and actor Marvin Agustin was part of the international jury as well.”
It was the second time for a Meily film to top the fest, following “Crying Ladies” which also won Best Actress for Sharon Cuneta in 2004.
