Cinemanila Celebrates 10 Years of Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema


The global spotlight shines on ten young local filmmakers as Cinemanila International Film Festival 2010 celebrates ten years of the Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema. The festival, which will run from December 1 to 5 at the Robinsons Movieworld Galleria Cinemas, will feature in its much-awaited line-up what was, for most of the Ishmael Bernal awardees, their first films. Most of them have since done films that have been screened and won at festivals abroad, including Cannes and Berlinale Film Festivals.

The ten past winners are as follows: `Buwan' by Peter Chua (2000), `Batang Trapo' by Mes de Guzman (2001), `Lolo's Child' by Romeo Candido (2002), `Binyag' by Mariami Tanangco (2003), `Bakasyon' by Raya Martin (2004), `Salat' by John Torres (2005), `The Ballad of Mimiong's Minion' by Jobin Ballesteros (2006), `Delusions' by Ernest Michael Manalastas (2007), `Surreal MMS' by Chris Gozum (2008), and `To Siomai Love' by Remton Zuasola (2009).

The '10 Years of Ishmael Bernal Award for Young Cinema' tribute event is presented by the Cinemanila International Film Festival and supported by the Film Development Council of the Philippines. The 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival runs from December 1-5, 2010 at the Robinsons Movieworld Galleria Cinemas, Ortigas Center.


The 12th Cinemanila International Film Festival will be held from December 1 to 5, 2010 in Robinsons Movieworld Galleria. Around 50 international and local films will be screened in a span of 5 days – from the current toasts of the local indie scene to the award-winners and favorites at prestigious festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, Sundance, and Pusan. The festival will also feature workshops, seminars and master classes. The 2010 Cinemanila is presented by the Film Development Council of the Philippines and the Cinemanila International Film Festival Foundation, together with Robinsons Movieworld Galleria, in cooperation with Cinema One, Manila Bulletin, Business World, Click the City, Pep.ph, Spot.ph, Web Philippines, TBWA\Mangada Santiago Puno, Outpost Visual Frontier, Solid Video Corporation and the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office.
