MANILA, Philippines – It was a night for the big winners during the Cinemalaya 2011 Awards Night.
The awarding ceremony held at the Cultural Center Philippines Sunday evening was hosted by TV personality Paolo Bediones and award-winning actress Angel Aquino.
Eugene Domingo (“Kimidora,” “Here Comes the Bride”) won the award for Best Actress for the New Breed Full-length Category for her role in “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank.”
“Kailangan ko pang kumain ng tae para lang manalo nito,” Domingo quipped after receiving her award.
Domingo played herself in the film where she was cast for a role in an upcoming independent film.
Marlon Rivera won the Best Director Award for New Breed Full Length Category for the film “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank.” The film also won Best Film for the same category.
The script was written by Chris Martinez (“Here Comes the Bride,” “Kimidora,” “100”), who won the Best Screenplay Award and Audience Choice Award for the New Breed Full Length Category.
“Busong” director Aureus Solito (“Pisay”) won the Best Director Award while” Bisperas,” directed by Jeffrey Jeturian (“Kubrador”) won the Best Film for the Director’s Showcase Category.
The Best Actor Award for the New Breed Full Length category was snagged by Edgar Allan Guzman for “Ligo na U, Lapit na Me.”
“Bisperas,” directed by award-winning film maker Jeffrey Jeturian, which is about a middle-class family who finds their home burglarized on Christmas Eve, won Best Film for the Director’s Showcase category.
The film also won Best Production Design (Rodrigo Liceo) and Best Cinematography (Roberto Iniguez) for the Director’s Showcase Category.
Julia Clarete and Raquel Villavicencio both won the Best Supporting Actress and Best Actress awards, respectively, for their roles in “Bisperas” also for the Director’s Showcase.
Veteran actor Rafael “Bembol” Rocco won Best Actor for the Director’s Showcase for his portrayal of a man who fathered a fish in the film “Isda.”
“Patikul,” directed by veteran film maker Joel Lamangan, is about a group of parents in a war-stricken, far-flung village in Patikul, Sulu, who took it upon themselves to ensure the safety of local public school teachers just so their kids can continue with their education. “Patikul” won the Audience Choice Award for the Director’s Showcase and was named as the Best Film for Children.
Jaime Pebangco also won the Best Supporting Actor for his role in “Patikul.” also for the Director’s Showcase.
“Walang Katapusang Kwarto” by Emerson Reyes also won several awards for the New Breed Short Film including Best Film, Best Screenplay and Audience Choice Award.
Milo Tolentino won Best Director for the New Breed Short Film Category for his film “Ninobonito.”
