Animated film "Lola" was awarded Best Animated Short at the recently held 2011 Atlanta Horror Film Festival in Atlanta, Georgia in the United States.
The film, directed by Joey Agbayani, is among 23 horror, sci-fi, gore, and dark comedy flicks showcased in the independent film festival.
"Lola" is about an old woman who is an "aswang," a mythical creature in Philippine folklore. "She is hired as an actress by a very ambitious and demanding director who exploits her supernatural abilities to save on production cost," according to the film's Facebook page.
In February this year, the film won Best Comedy Animated Short at the Giggleshorts International Comedy Short Festival in Toronto, Canada. The 6-minute film has also made it to festivals' big screens in several countries, including Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Sydney in Australia.
"Lola" was also showcased in the Philippines last year in the 2010 Cinemalaya festival. — Candice Montenegro/RSJ, GMA News
