Philippines’ First full-length animatedfeature “RPG Metanoia” got nominated in this year’s Asia Pacific Screen Awards. The awarding ceremony of 2011 Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) for winning films will take place at the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia on November 24.
RPG Metanoia will be competing in the Best Animated Feature Film category against Japan’s “Hoshi o Ou Kodomo,” Korea’s “Madangeul Naon Amtak,” Singapore’s “Tatsumi” and Russia’s “Gadkiy Utyonok.”
I haven’t seen the films who will stand up against our very own RPG Metanoia but based on their trailers and synopsis we’ll probably go head-to-head with Japan’s “Hoshi o Ou Kodomo (Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below)” or with Korea’s “Madangeul Naon Amtak (Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild)”.
Singapore’s Tatsumi, to be honest, doesn’t seem to have that “wowing” style in terms of animation. While Russia’s clay stop motion retelling of Hans Christian Anderson’s “The Ugly Duckling” doesn’t look appealing enough in my opinion. Story-wise though, I think Korea’s animated film might bring home the bacon. Japan’s trailer might seem interesting since their movie is a fantasy but the previous works of the director, story-wise doesn’t seem so extravagant and all. Even so, their edge is that Makoto Shinkai is one great cinematographer! But then, I’ll still hope that we will please the taste of the judges because ours is modern, socially relevant and is the only 3D CGI animated film.
Here are the trailers! Watch them and tell me what you’ve got to say about the other entries as well.
Hoshi o Ou Kodomo (Children Who Chase Lost Voices from Deep Below)
Madangeul Naon Amtak (Leafie, A Hen Into The Wild)
