Up dharma Down is a Filipino band that has interestingly broken and combined musical boundaries in their songs. A lot of people don't know how to classify the band. Well, the band can't seem to explain it as well. The best way to understand this nameless genre is to listen to their music.
BBC U.K. and Time Magazine Asia have blessedly helped push their music internationally. They have since played in Hong Kong and at Singapore's Mosaic Music Festival.
Being a young band on a young independent label takes a lot of work. But their efforts have been rewarded with NU107 In The Raw Award (2005), NU107 Best New Artist (2006), NU107 Best Female Award (2006), and MYX Favorite Indie Artist(2008). They also have/had endorsements with Lipton, Adidas and were commissioned to make music for Coke and McDonald's adverts.
The band has been together for 4 years now. It all started with a vague hunch of doing anything that felt right with their songs. And the universe just let every note fall into place like a big giant puzzle that still doesn't want itself to be fully solved. The musical ride continues and we are all expected to expect nothing in usual reason. Their second album is slated to be out this 2008.
