Profile:
One night in 2003, Doy Lagos, Marcus Nada, Ace Cada, Tom Barba, and Paolo Francisco found themselves at a bar in New Manila. Talk turned to music and it wasn’t long before the talkers turned into a band called Bagetsafonik. A month later, the newly minted band played its first awkward-but-inspired gig. Five guitar-driven, electro-pop songs introduced a sound that was simultaneously sweet and street, and people in the underground music scene began to take notice.
Bagetsafonik proceeded to play every gig that came their way, eventually becoming mainstays of the Ninja Kiss and Ninjakyusi productions. Their music drew a diverse crowd, lovers of new wave, shoegaze, hip-hop, and electronica alike. In 2007, Bagetsafonik released their debut indie album, Travelogue. Available nationwide, Travelogue took the band’s musical joyride further than ever before. Singles “Halogen,” “Automatik,” and “Saccharine,” were soon picked up by radio stations like NU 107, JAM 88.3, 99.5 RT, 103.5 Max FM, and RJ Underground Radio 105.9. Their videos aired on MYX and MTV and Bagetsafonik became MTV’s Need to Know Artist for October 2007. They also performed on MYX Bandarito and received a MYX Music Awards 2008 nomination (Best Bandarito Performance) for their live set.
Travelogue’s last single, “Joyride,” was released in May 2009. Ready to see where the music takes them, the band is back in the studio writing songs for the second album. Their sound has grown up in the last six years. It’s fuller, darker, perhaps more bittersweet than sugary. Bagetsafonik is ready to chart a new course and everyone’s welcome to come along for the ride.
