Profile:
After heated words have been exchanged and anything that can be thrown hurled, music can be a source of momentary peace after a break-up. Radio’s on, but wherever the dial stops, every song reminds you of the pangs of heartbreak. Need a breather? Hansom may just have what you need; after all, losing someone can’t be that bad. Maybe her breath stinks. Or he’s little down there, and size does matter at times, right?
Back in 2003, vocalist Ton had been writing songs and shopping for band members. Experimenting with different combos didn’t seem to work, and after coming home from school one day he realized he already had the tailor-fit members all along – brothers Gino and Aldo. The set-up was perfect; whenever all three were at home, they’d just jam. Older brother Gino went on to learn the bass, while Aldo the youngest manned the drums, with a kit their mom got for his birthday. Apart from funding the band, she also provided the name they’d eventually call themselves with. It started out as a joke at first obviously, since the idea of having three brothers in a band rather seemed familiar. But, evidently having a lighthearted family, the name stuck.
And it is this same humor that became the trait of their music. Most of the songs are the result of boredom, in this age where the radio would blare on and on of tiring themes of heartache. It’s not that Hansom are devoid of such emotions, they just choose to believe that getting rejected by someone cannot possibly be the end of the world. And, rather than masking anxieties in a slew of highfalutin metaphors, Hansom say what they have to as it is, making each line delivered more meaningful and personal. Yes, the name may come off as a quirky parody of a certain American band, but a visit to one of their live gigs will prove how these guys can be and are, well, serious.
It is here where Hansom are really at their element. Having done theater in their earlier years, the brothers highly respect the stage and the audience. And once there, they rarely disappoint. What one gets in a Hansom gig is a full-blown show, ripe with natural humor and high-octane music.
