History:
Kris met Mike. Mike sat at Kris' class and was invited to do vocal tracks on a class project, thus their first band together "My Chemical Romans."
Later on joined by Rups on bass, the three composed another class project. After a year of school project songs, the three decided to make it a serious band. On May 2010 Ophidia played their first gig.
Mike, after two days of brainstorming, ruined Rups' afternoon nap just to tell the latter that the band is already called "Ophidia". The three worked with different drummers:
Ayo Canlas - recording drummer for Catomania
Gandhi Orduna - recording drummer for Medusa
Jon Montalbo - session drummer for first gig
Nikki Cuna - recording drummer for Pyramid of Serpents, session drummer for [[aMp]] band auditions
Eventually, the three opted to get a keyboardist. Joal, a good friend/drinking buddy, agreed after a jam session with Alex who was then a sessionist. Alex decided to go full-time a day before his second gig with the band.
After some time, Rups has decided to leave the band due to personal reasons.
Jake Dy has been the session bassist ever since.
On February 25, 2011, Jake had his first gig with Ophidia as the permanent bassist. This completed the band's line up.
Description:
Ophidia started from a brotherhood of drunkards who all love progressive music and metal. With this common love for music, these individuals decided to use their capabilities to incept their own sound.
Mike's growling vocals push the band's aggressive vibe because of his powerful delivery. Influenced by the likes of Lamb of God and Opeth, his vocal style is very powerful yet intelligible.
Kris provides character to Ophidia through his heavy riffs and character-driven shredding. His expertise in dissonance and harmony adds texture and attitude to Ophidia.
Joal's note-riddling solos and jazzy chord voicings provide ambient atmospheres and layering to Ophidia's overall sound. A fusion keyboardist at heart, his style is different from Ophidia's founding members.
Alex fuses his groovy drumming and subtle accents to Ophidia. The addition to the lineup after months of struggling to find a full-time drummer, his will to be immersed in Progressive music made him the right man for Ophidia.
Jake threads all these instruments together by keeping the groove tight and by providing solid bass lines. His consistency makes Ophidia sound solid, and with a few solos here and there, he gives the band a jazzy feel.
The dream of Ophidia is to make a mark in the Philippine progressive scene by creating technical passages, ethereal atmospheres, and aggressive motifs.
