“IN A MERRY MOOD:
FROM CLASSICAL TO JAZZ”
Concert at the Park, this Sunday, December 21, 2008, starting at 5:00 p.m., presents its Christmas offering titled, “In A Merry Mood: From Classical To Jazz”, featuring the U.P. Guitar Orchestra, under the music direction of Mr. Lester Demetillo and the UST Jazz Orchestra, under the music direction of Mr. Tots Tolentino. Ms. Minette Padilla is program host. The public is cordially invited.
Concert at the Park is a regular public service project of the National Parks Development Committee, under Executive Director Carlito A. Fajardo, in partnership with the National Commission for Culture & the Arts and the National Broadcasting Network. Morris M. Paredes directs for television from a script by Gie V. Arnold. Freddie A. Edos is the Executive In Charge of the concert project.
The U.P. Guitar Orchestra, composed of ardent guitarists and outstanding students majoring in guitar from the U.P. College of Music, prides itself as being the first and only orchestra of its kind in the Philippines . The orchestra is an off-shoot of the U.P. Guitar Ensemble founded (in 1982) and directed by Prof. Lester Demetillo.
The UST Jazz Orchestra is an official ensemble of the UST Conservatory of Music, under the music direction of Mario Martin “Tots” Tolentino, a graduate of the famed Berklee College of Music in Boston , USA . The orchestra does music from the swing era to the modern jazz age as well as pieces by Tots Tolentino.
“In A Merry Mood: From Classical To Jazz” is made up of the following program: ALLEGRO (Gragnani), FUGUE (Bach), WHAT CHILD IS THIS?, THE FIRST NOEL, SLEIGH RIDE (Anderson), SILENT NIGHT, and SIMBANG GABI (San Pedro) – UP Guitar Orchestra; and TONOHAN (Tots Tolentino), FUNKY CHA-CHA (Sandoval), TOWER OF POWER MEDLEY, VST & CO. MEDLEY and WE WISH YOU A MERRY JAZZ . . . . MAS! – UST Jazz Orchestra.
