it started as a means of releasing the music of an indie band and the vision of spreading their music through metro manila. in september of 2008, this was realized as the band released their EP at 6underground.
it grew from one band to several as others approached for guidance and with no promises made, we tried to make it happen.
inspired by these indie bands, their passion for music and their love for self expression, what was once a project to help one band get regular gigs developed into something more purposeful; to help independent Filipino bands spread their music through different means of exposure and showcase their artistic talent by providing them with a venue to do so.
at the core of RDP are three dedicated partners, committed to excellence and to bringing an unparalleled level of excitement to every event produced.
why rubber duckie?
the 20th century has seen the emergence of leisure as a valid expression of our political freedom.
before leisure was decadent, a rude gesture of superiority from the upper classes to the working classes. it was a symbol of derision, a kind of 'look at me, i can afford to do nothing.'
now, it's different. leisure has become a right for all. it is no longer wasteful, but rather a particular way of contributing to the workings of this market driven society. leisure is, a method of participation, an expression, and a symbol of our freedom.
what better way to sum this up than the rubber duck. a bath, initially, was a necessity; a way to stave off death by keeping clean from dirt and infection. now that, too, has become leisure.
how insulting to those in our past where when they fought the plague with the bath, we fight boredom. or perhaps, not how insulting, but how thanking we are. each bath we have serves as a testament to the work done by those before us, on whose labors we stand able to live, and to play.
the rubber duck is the symbol of our tribute to those who came before us.
