Blending influences both classic and contemporary, from the outermost reaches of dubstep, hip hop and beyond, Slugabed’s productions have been gaining props in a big way recently. Under his Slugabed alias, Greg Feldwick evokes the sound and spirit of post-Dilla west coast hip hop, whilst simultaneously stalking the length and breadth of the UK’s dubstep / bass music scene. Or in the words of The Quietus, crafting “all the best bits of current American pop culture and distilling it along with UK bass music into a typically sceptical Brit attitude.”
Originally hailing from Bath, UK, the 21-year-old ‘beat machine’ relocated to Brighton, where he played an instrumental role in the success of local club night Donky Pitch for which he still holds a residency. The real noise, however, has emanated from Slugabed’s initial pool of 12-inches. 2009 saw the release of ‘Gritsalt’ for Ramp Recordings, as well as a heavy remake of Rick James’ ‘Superphreak’ for Stuff Records, with both demonstrating his ability to combine intelligent and original production skills with serious dancefloor appeal. Mary Anne Hobbs, Mark Pritchard, Benji B and Various Production were among the early converts, all vocalizing their admiration for the young producer.
With an already impressive catalogue of official remixes for the likes of Starkey, Eprom and Kelpe under his belt, he also created his own version of Pharoah Monch’s classic ‘Simon Says’ which has been devastating dancefloors worldwide. However, it was arguably his ‘Ultra Heat Treated’ EP, released in 2009 on the prestigious Planet Mu label, that propelled Slugabed furthest into the spotlight, winning him new support and glowing reviews across the board, as well as interest from some of the best cutting-edge record labels around. Partly as a result he was offered a chance to remix Roots Manuva’s all-time great “Witness (1Hope)” for Ninja Tune’s twentieth anniversary boxset. The result was one of the stand-outs of that mammoth collection, Manuva himself liking it so much that he requested the instrumental so that he could use it in his live set. An album deal with the label followed shortly after.
Since then, things have really taken off for Feldwick. He has played at the legendary Berghain club in Berlin as part of Scuba’s SUB:STANCE night. He launched Donkey Pitch’s record label with the track “Donkey Stomp,” toured Canada and remixed both Eskmo and Stateless for his new home label. In addition, he’s planning a tour of Australia and New Zealand in April 2011, plus a summer appearance at the Outlook Festival and work to complete his debut album for Ninja.
Since the year 2004, SAMIYAM has been the proud owner of two midi cables. They are currently in his closet under some other shit.
Originally from Ann Arbor and currently residing in LA since 2006, this lover of sprinkles on doughnuts, takes the legacy of all Detroit's talented musical sons and daughters and makes beats filled with snippets of soul, funk, Italian horror flick soundtracks, Nintendo bonus level music and '90s hip-hop. In his short time on the West Coast he has become one of the city's most progressive and recognized producers, a man who has helped spearhead the revival of interest in instrumental hip hop music. His album Rap Beats Vol. 1 was the first release on the Brainfeeder label, and SAMIYAM's raw hip hop sound with a psychedelic edge and off-kilter beats could be called quintessential Brainfeeder style.
Of all the Low End Theory regulars, Samiyam's DJ sets most consistently skew toward hardcore rap, with kufi-smacking rappers like Roc Marciano and Danny Brown knocking skulls alongside the latest sounds barrelling out of London (after all, Sam was invited to contribute to the prestigious and real thorough "Hyperdub 5" compilation). The influence of Dilla obviously runs rampant throughout his sound, but deeper listening reveals the buried clues. The shouts of M.O.P. and the bloodbath raps of Mobb Deep.
Somehow, with this much content, the beats still manage to sound gloriously minimal and disjointed. Fans like Benji B, Andrew Meza (BTS Radio) and XLR8R have been eagerly snapping up his tracks, as Sam freeze frames Electro energy and spits it back out as twisted future Jazz. Dabrye is a fan, Daedelus describes him as "a thrilling sound to break the sameness," and Flying Lotus is his brother in arms (they collaborate on the project FLYamSAM).
On June 28 2011, Samiyam released his 2nd full length LP titled "Sam Baker's Album" on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label.

The mix was created to reflect OBEY on more of a musical aspect with all influences taking cues from hip-hop, punk, disco, rock, downtempo, uptempo, jazz, etc. Different from all the other “mash-up/re-edit” mixtapes out, its eclectic blends are more organic, keeping that authenticity of each timeless track.
