IN/SIGHT: Charice’s first flop

:-O Charice used all publicity tricks to attract Metro Manilans to attend her June 29 first major local concert. She tried being the underdog with the “You’re ugly” story. She tried to associate herself with the day’s hot buzz, Michael Jackson’s death. But all her efforts managed to fill up the SMX Convention Center to one-third of capacity only!

:-] Despite ABS-CBN’s excellent support as media partner, it failed to push and pull demand. Why?

;-] Charice does not have a solid fan base in her own country. She’s got a superior voice but lacks charm like Sarah Geronimo or Regine Velasquez when she was young.

;-] She got the wrong guest, has-been Regine who was a no-show in the actual concert, claiming sickness. Had she got Sarah Geronimo as special guest, she could have created more fire for the concert. Kuh Ledesma subbed for Regine.

:-] Her career handlers must remember singers like her are a dime-a-dozen in the country. She’s maybe a singing sensation in the US especially finding a strong backer in Oprah Winfrey but over here she does not make a big difference.

:-( The concert tickets were priced too high, from P500 to P5,000. That’s a killer, both for prospective watchers and Charice! However, the expensive front row seats were full during the actual concert. But that’s easy to do by giving out complimentary tickets.

:-( The print and website push (not including STIR) was ineffective.

:-( As STIR warned, it’s a fly or flop concert for Charice. Regrettably, it turned out a first flop! But it’s not the end of the journey for her. Her career handlers must work on her image and develop her fan base.
