Project/Event Title:ARTrageous! Lyceum Arts Festival 2008
Target Date: February 16-21, 2009
Target Venue: Various Venues within the University
Project Description:
As part of the Lyceum Theater Company’s mission to promote artistic & cultural awareness within the Lyceum Community and uplift the potentials each student through arts, the Arts festival aims to further expand the student’s appreciation of the different art disciplines such as Visual arts, Literature, Film, Theater, Dance, and Music. The event will be tagged as “ARTrageous! Lyceum’s first Arts Festival”, in line with the theme: “Arts for the youth, for the Nation, for a change.” .
The festival will last for a week, from February 16 to 21, 2009. An Opening Ceremony & ribbon cutting will be held in the morning to jump-start the festival. Each day is packed with a line-up of activities that the students will enjoy while still learning and appreciating the arts. The line-up of activities is as follows:
Symposia (Talks & Workshops) – We will be inviting prominent people from different art disciplines that will talk about their profession on their chosen field.
Film Showing – Screening of independent & digital movies from Cinemalaya 2008 and Cinema One originals will be shown at the Lyceum Mini Theater for a much better appreciation and understanding of new genres in film which are far different from movies shown in the cinemas today.
Book Fair – A book fair of well known authors published by Adarna House and Anvil Publishing will be part of the festival and also to promote reading to students.
Exhibit – an exhibit from Adarna House of the “10 most loved children’s stories” will live in the Mabini Hall for the period of the festival, most of which are famous characters of the stories of our Alumnus and National Artist for Literature, Rene A. Villanueva. We will also contact the Philippine Daily Inquirer to display their mascot “Guyito the Philippine Carabao” which was made by one of our national artists for visual arts as part of the exhibit. An exhibit of works of the Humanities & LIPA department will be set-up on the CAS wing foyer.
Mural Painting & Contests – A mural painting on the wall made of plywood will be held outside the University. This will be headed by Mr. Warto Torrevillas, Humanities/LIPA chairman. Each College will be given a space to paint in with the theme about saving the environment through arts. Also, an inter-college contest for Poem Writing, Creative Storytelling, Poster Making or Oil-in-canvass painting contest will be held so students taking up Humanities, Filipino, English & Literature subjects can actively participate in this event.
Winners will be judged by our professor from the College of Arts & Sciences. They will be awarded on the last day of the Arts festival by our guest artists from different sectors and from the Philippine Daily Inquirer and will be given prices from our sponsors.
Performances – Each group will also have their individual performances at the JPL Hall of Freedom during the festival period while Tanghalang Batingaw will render a series of One-act plays at the Audio Visual Room 1.
These activities are open to all students and other arts enthusiast from our neighboring universities. We will seek the help of the university PR, Advertising & Marketing Department for the publicity of the event to other high schools, colleges & universities who might be interested to participate with us.
A closing ceremony will be held at the Jose P. Laurel Hall of Freedom last day of the festival on February 21, 2008 at 5:30pm which includes the awarding ceremony for the winners of the festival contests. A mini concert performed by our resident performing groups will be held afterwards and will close the festival.
