TAMA10 InterAksyon - The 7th Tupada International Visual Performance Festival, kicks off on February 17, 2010 at the Manila Contemporary, Makati for an art symposium. The opening of this live art event will commence with an art talk/discussions of art practices by foreign and TAMA core participants, and will move on to Market Market, Bonifacio Global City in the afternoon for a series of ambush performances. The following day, February 18, TAMA ’10 goes to the De La Salle University in Lipa, Batangas to conduct a lecture/workshop for the students and visitors of DLSU - Lipa. Visual performance proper shall commence in the afternoon and will continue until February 19, the next day. Shambala Silang in Cavite will be our next and third host venue on the 20th and 21st of February, True to TAMA's thrust for grassroots art education by siting performance in public spaces, there will be plenty of indoor and outdoor visual performances for the duration of TAMA '10 with a side trip to Espasyo Siningdikato and nearby areas in Dasmarinas for a follow up on our series of guerilla-art activities.
TAMA10 InterAksyon asserts to showcase individual concepts and collective visions of body, time, space, action, and sound performance as an ever-expanding and dynamic art genre. All exhibitions, art talks and performances are free and open to the public, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
As Tupada Action and Media Art evolves further in its growth from the bimonthly Tupada ambush performances first held in 2002 on public spaces such as parks, streets, bus stations, markets, pedestrian walkways, cafes and alternative art spaces, it holds on to its aspiration to increase the visibility of performance art in the social realm. Since 2006, TAMA international events have been presented not only in Metro Manila, but in the neighboring northern provinces of Pangasinan, Baguio and Aurora as well. Now reaching out to the students and artist communities of Batangas and Cavite, the road to southern Luzon is paved as TAMA gains momentum in introducing visual performance to a larger audience.
Espousing the ideals of community in the public domain as independent ground for relational communication between artists and their audience, TAMA10 InterAksyon delves deeper into the intricacy of performance in relation to society; its openness and familiarity against provocation and estrangement, in reference to the individual practices and creative processes of the participating artists. Whether spectacular or conceptual, new media-infused or minimal, visual performance is presented with a sense of intercultural convergence.
International performance artists Amelia Winger (Nashville, USA), Kana Fukushima (Japan), Smitha Cariappa (India), Tamar Raban (Israel), Made Surya (Indonesia), Koji Ohike (Japan), Auyeung Tung (Hong Kong), Mrat Lunn Htwann (Myanmar), Ding Yu Chung (Taiwan), GuaZi - Liu Chengrui (China), have been invited to participate in this year's event, along with TAMA core artists Thomas Daquioag, Boyet De Mesa, Rommel Espinosa, Mitch Garcia, Ian Madrigal, Marlon Magbanua, Sam Penaso, Ronaldo Ruiz, Kaye Oyek and Mannet Villariba.
