Art Assemblage Contest for Private & High School Students
High school students invited to join Europe Ko To art assemblage contest
The Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines, in partnership with two prestigious
cultural and art education institutions, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Philippine
Women's University, invites high school students in Metro Manila to join this year's Europe Ko To
art assemblage contest.
Ambassador Alistair MacDonald, Head of Delegation of the European Union to the
Philippines said that: "This contest is our way of recognising the creativity and talents of young
Filipinos as well as of instilling among them the value of environment protection which is also at the
core of the European Union's sustainable development policies.
The art assemblage contest is part of the Europe Month celebrations dubbed "Viva Europa",
which marks the founding of the European Union (9 May) and this year also commemorates the
entering into force of the Lisbon Treaty.
The deadline for submission of the art assemblage pieces to the Philippine Women's University
(Taft Avenue, Manila) is on 15 April 2010. Submissions must be made during office hours, Monday to

A selection of 20 entries will be exhibited from 22 April to 30 May 2010 at the Cultural Center of
the Philippines as part of CCP’s Earth Day Festivities. The final ten winning art pieces will be announced
at the awarding ceremony led by Ambassador MacDonald also to be held at the CCP on 20 May 2010.
The following are the guidelines:
Artwork Format is ASSEMBLAGE (a three dimensional artwork made of different materials put
together to form one unified concept art piece or composition.)
Who may join: This assemblage contest is open to all Filipino students currently enrolled in public
and private high schools in Metro Manila. The assemblage should be a result of a collaboration by
a team of three students. Any other team composition is disqualified.
Theme: Entries must adhere to the theme "Unity in Diversity" in reflection of the spirit of the
Treaty of Lisbon. It might be noted that the Treaty of Lisbon was intended to increased democratic
accountability within the EU, to strengthen the EU's relations with third countries, and to make the
EU's decision-making processes more efficient (http://www.ec.europa.eu)
Medium/Materials: Assemblage made of recycled but non-perishable materials, preferably those
coming from the home and including from the community, like the following:
tin cans, rubber slippers, bottles, cloth or textile materials, paper products such as papers,
paper boards and boxes, plastic materials such as containers and old toys, metal pieces.
Note: Materials that deteriorate are not permitted.
Dimensions: Height - 16 inches including base, not smaller than 10 inches
Weight - maximum of 20 kilos
Cubic Measure – maximum 12 inches x 12 inches x 16 inches
The team should submit their entries to the Philippine Women's University, Taft Avenue, Manila
(during office hours, Monday to Friday), not later than 15 April 2010. Entries should be
accompanied by a short rationale explaining the concept of their entry piece. Rationale should be
not more than five sentences with a maximum of 300 words
Students also should also provide the following information together with their respective entries:
name, address, contact landline and mobile phone numbers of the members of the team, the
year and section of the members of the team,
name of adviser, contact number of adviser, name of school
Criteria for Judging – Entries will be judged on the basis of the following:
Relevance to the Theme – 40%
Durability & Stability – 30%
Aesthetic Significance and Uniqueness – 30%
The jury will be composed of artists and officials from the organisers.
Five winners will be chosen and each will be awarded a trophy and a medal as well as special
prizes from the Delegation. In addition, five finalists will be chosen and each will be awarded
certificates. All winning entries in addition to other entries of merit will be exhibited at the
Cultural Center of the Philippines.
All winners will be notified by mail.
Prizes not claimed within 30 days after the awarding ceremony shall be forfeited.
