Nick and Chai at UPFI Film Center
On the occasion of the Best Picture win at the Circle Competition of the recently concluded QCinema International Film Festival 2014, Cha Escala and Wena Sanchez’s documentary feature, Nick and Chai, is set to have its own UP Film Institute showcase on December 6 Saturday at the UPFI Film Center in UP Diliman.
The film follows the life of a Leyte couple who lost all their four children as Typhoon Yolanda ravaged the country in November 2013. It had its world premiere last October at Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and has now gone to Europe for the current Amsterdam International Documentary Film Festival.
The screening run at 2:30, 5 and 7 p.m. with the filmmakers in attendance for a talk, meet and greet with the audience serves as a commemoration of the anniversary of Typhoon Yolanda and can be said to be the premier state university premiere for the distinct documentary feature. Escala and Sanchez are UPFI graduates and their film is the product of a grant from Asian Network of Documentary Fund.
