The annual International Silent Film Festival Manila (ISFFM) is back with in-person festivities in celebration of sixteen years of reliving rich silent film culture worldwide.
This year’s ISFFM is joined by seven partner embassies and cultural organizations to showcase their classic silent films.
Live scored by selected Filipino bands and musicians, silent films.

To commence this year’s International Silent Film Festival Manila, British Council Philippines in cooperation with the British Film Institute proudly presents UK’s 1929 classic silent film “Piccadilly”.
“Piccadilly” is the story of Shosho, a scullery maid in a fashionable London nightclub whose sensuous tabletop dance catches the eye of suave club owner Valentine Wilmot. She rises to become the toast of London and the object of his erotic obsession.
To give colors and music to the film, “Piccadilly” will be live scored by Philippines-based world fusion acoustic pop band Anahata, in collaboration with Sensoria.

Experience different thrill as Goethe-Institut Philippinen in cooperation with FW Murnau Foundation presents the first cinematic adaptation of Dracula, 1922 classic silent film “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror”
Nosferatu unravels a business journey which takes the unsuspecting realtor from the port city of Wisborg to Transylvania where he enters into a sales contract with the sinister Count Orlok and realizes that he is a vampire.
Legendary rock ‘n roll Filipino band The Brockas will make the plot more exciting with their powerful music.
8:00PM | Film Screening
This year’s oldest film to be screened, Embassy of France to the Philippines and Micronesia in cooperation with Centre national du cinéma et de l’image animée proudly presents “La sultane de l’amour” (The Sultan of Love: A Thousand and One Nuits).
A 1919 French silent classic, “La sultane de l’amour” is an orientalist fairytale of the tormented love of Princess Daoulah and Prince Mourad, who met as a disguised girl and poor fisherman, and who could not find each other.
Built by their love for original Filipino music, Filipino band Brass Pas Pas Pas Pas will bring liveliness and musical scoring to the film.

Learn from the experiences and techniques of the musicians of 16th ISFFM!
Joining the second session of ISFFM’s side event are Pepe Manikan and Bullet Dumas . Catch them at the Red Carpet Premiere Theater, Shangri-La Mall.

Twelve years after its Malaga Film Festival premiere, Instituto Cervantes de Manila in partnership with Embassy of Spain in the Philippines and in cooperation with Filmoteca española proudly presents the 1926 Spanish silent film “Malvaloca” for the 16th International Silent Film Festival Manila!
It follows the story of Rosita, the Malvaloca, has had various love affairs. But eventually she falls madly in love with her last lover’s partner. The couple will then have to face the prejudice of the people who do not forget the girl’s past.
Indigenous rock band Talahib People’s Music will touch our souls with the heart-warming live musical score of “Malvaloca”.

A dose of experimental comedy and romance, The Japan Foundation, Manila, in partnership with Embassy of Japan in the Philippines 在フィリピン日本国大使館 and in cooperation with Shochiku, proudly presents 1931 Yasujiro Ozu classic 淑女と髯 | The Lady and the Beard for the 16th International Silent Film Festival!
The film follows Okajima, a conservative and self-conscious student who is unable to find work and love because of his magnificent beard, who saves a young girl from a gang of ruffians.
Independent Filipino singer-songwriter and contemporary folk musician Bullet Dumas will give life and colors to Japan’s commercially and critically-acclaimed classic silent film.

The State of Philippine Film Archiving & the Role of the Public

On ISFFM’s sixteenth anniversary, the Embassy of Italy in the Philippines, in partnership with The Philippine Italian Association and in cooperation with Cineteca di Bologna proudly presents a controversial and censored Italian film of its time, 1921 Ubaldo Maria Del Colle masterpiece “I Figli di Nessuno | Nobody’s Children”.
Based on a famous Italian novel from the turn of the 20th century, “I Figli di Nessuno” is a tale of lovers thwarted by class differences, of illegitimate children, and denied parental recognition.
Award-winning Filipino music and audio producer Pepe Manikan will bring deeper emotions to this masterpiece with his live musical scoring!

A year after its successful debut, Film Development Council of the Philippines in cooperation with Philippine Film Archive proudly presents three of the best silent films of 2021 Mit Out Sound (MOS): International Silent Film Competition in ISFFM cinema!
Vahn Pascual’s “Alingasngas ng mga Kuliglig | The Gossips of Cicadidae”, Gabriela Serrano’s “Dikit” and EJ Gagui & Marienel Calma’s “Ing Tianak” will be screened back-to-back-to-back!
