Pakalog Festival
Since 1995 the constituents of Barangay Santolan in Pasig City had been celebrating New Year’s eve not in the customary way of revelry amidst the ear-splitting blasts of firecrackers but in community merry-making, dancing and feasting. Instead of the “pakulog” the Santoleños greet the new year with “pakalog”.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Pakalog Festival this year, and in observance of the protocols brought about by the pandemic, the Executive Council of Barangay Santolan had decided to forego with the traditional street festivities and opted to sponsor a national painting competition in celebration of their dream of instilling “the spirit of camaraderie and the values of unity and cooperation among the Santoleños of Pasig and the Filipino people”.
