“In my journey in art, I encountered these 3 outstanding watercolorists serendipitously. Alfred Galura was lingering in my daughter Mia Herbosa’s solo show in Ayala Museum some 12 years ago for quite a lengthy period of time. I was getting curious. Then he finally got the courage to approach me in my secretariat table and introduced himself. That was the beginning of our friendship and alliance as manager/artist. From that time hence I have had resounding successes curating his one man show at Ayala Museum and numerous group shows with other L’arcenciel artists in various venues.

Rene Canlas was in attendance in one of our shows and struck an interesting conversation with me. He was a true blue artist, long hair and all, very Bohemian. His humility and sincerity appealed to me as he showed me photos of his imptressive works on his phone. He mentioned wanting to be affiliated with L’arcenciel but I told him he was already successful on his own, his talent was evident!

I met Gerardo Jimenez “Gejo” (as he is fondly called) at my booth in Art in the Park 2018. We were both surviving the beat and the heat of the event! Our lively conversation on art gave us some respite from the uncomfortable elements. He was also a pariticipant in L’arcenciel’s open studio workshops. I had also attended his 2nd solo show in Prism Gallery which was sold out. His style impressed me. He really made the water flow and there was a sense of freedom, fluidity and atmosphere apparent in his works.

Then again our paths kept crossing till last year when it dawned on me to produce a 3 man show of these greats in watercolor. Their response was overwhelming and so we have birthed “Romancing the Water”. ”

Alfredo Galura has been affiliated with L’arcenciel Atelier for 10 years now. He is a master watercolorist par excellence. Pampanga’s pride says of his works: “I appreciate anything with a sensory perception. As an artist I want my works to be pleasant, positive and artful in appearance. Aesthetically, all I want is for my viewers to understand and judge the quality of my work.” This humble artist has had many solo and group shows in Ayala Musuem, 8 Rockwell, The Bellevue Manila, and Tagaytay Highlands

Rene Canlas is a multi-awarded contemporary and representational visual artist who works primarily with subjects that catch his eye. He was born and raised in Tondo, Manila. He studied Fine Arts at Feati University. His first watercolor exhibit after returning home from KSA was “Re-Vision”, held at the Ayala ArtistSpace in 2018. He has been participating in group art exhibits since 1972 and was one of the leaders of the Spectrum Art Group.

Gerardo Jimenez is a visual artist based in Canlubang, Laguna. He was the founding member of AGWA-FLOW (Filipino League of Watercolorists). Jimenez’s work serves as a visual journal of objects, people, fleeting moments, and memorable experiences, as well as a reminder of the precious gift of life and a call to find beauty in the mundane. In 2018, he exhibited his sold-out solo show “Fleeting: Restaurantscapes by Gerardo Jimenez at Prism Gallery in Makati. His work has also been included in the Fabriano in Acquarello, the world’s largest water color event held in Fabriano, Italy.
