Curator’s and Artists’ Walkthrough

The UP Vargas Museum invites everyone to the curator’s and artists’ walkthrough of the exhibition, a knowing intimacy or a life, happening on 7 March 2020, Saturday at 2:30 pm. The walkthrough will be joined by Carlos Quijon, Jr., Lesley-Anne Cao, Kat Medina, Lee Paje, and Indy Paredes. a knowing intimacy or a life prospects the myriad ways in which artistic forms and practice participate in imaginations of social life, particularly that of intimacy and its interfaces within and without the exhibition. This is part of the Curatorial Development Workshop Exhibitions supported by the Japan Foundation and the Philippine Contemporary Art Network, on view until 7 March 2020.

About the curator and artists:
Carlos Quijon, Jr. (curator)
Carlos Quijon, Jr. is a graduate student taking up Art Criticism and Theory at the Department of Art Studies, University of the Philippines. He was shortlisted in the Ateneo Art Gallery’s Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize for Art Criticism in 2016. Courses of Action was Quijon’s first curatorial project under Para Site’s annual Emerging Art Professionals program at Hong Kong last 2019. Quijon opened his second curated exhibition in the Philippines at The Drawing Room, titled A will for prolific disclosures, last January 2020.
Lesley-Anne Cao
Lesley-Anne Cao is a visual artist based in Quezon City who graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts (Major in Painting) at the University of the Philippines. She has exhibited locally and internationally in solo and group shows such as in More light than heat with Lao Lianben at Calle Wright, Manila, and Courses of Action in Hong Kong with curator Carlos Quijon, Jr., both in 2019. Cao has been recently been shortlisted at the 2019 Ateneo Art Awards’ Fernando Zobel Prizes for Visual Art.
Kat Medina
Kat Medina is a graduate of the Far Eastern University, Manila with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, and is taking up Archeology at the University of the Philippines. She involves elements of craftsmanship and object-making into her artistic practice as a reaction to the contemporary mass production. She held her first solo show in her studio space titled It’s Hard Being a Being, and has then exhibited in Taipei (2018) and in London (2019).
Lee Paje
Lee Paje is a visual artist who graduated with a degree in Fine Arts (Major in Studio Arts) at the University of the Philippines. Her works explore issues and themes on women and gender in the context of the contemporary lifestyle. She was the recipient of the Grand Prize and People’s Choice Award in the 2018 Don Papa Rum Art Competition. She has exhibited in Singapore and Taiwan, and was notably part of Lawas, the 2018 UP Diliman Festival of Culture and the Arts 2018: Kat(h)awan: Bodies, Culture, Society, a project of The Office of the Chancellor, through the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts.
Indy Paredes
Indy Paredes graduated with a degree in Fine Arts (Major in Painting) at the University of the Philippines. Paredes’s artistic practice engages the public with an examination of the living conditions of urban residential spaces by creating large-scale installations that recreates public and private spaces. He participated in various exhibitions such as at the Philippine Pavilion during the Gwangju Biennale (2018), Manila Biennale 2018: Open City, and at the Artkitektura: Living Architecture Special Projects at Vargas Museum (2018).
