The National Museum of the Philippines invites you to the webinar “AMLIG: Biodiversity Conservation in West Visayas Faunal Region (WVFR)” on Feb. 24, 2021, 9 AM to 12 PM, through Zoom and Facebook Live on the National Museum Western Visayas page.
The webinar is timely. The United Nations loudened the call for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem restoration and protection to prevent “catastrophic climate change”. The UN says this decade, the UN Decade of Ecosystem Restoration, is critical to prevent it.
The year 2021 is the Philippine Quincentennial Year. We commemorate the Victory of Mactan and the Philippine part in the first circumnavigation of the world. It also celebrates the numerous scientific milestones including the extensive documentation of Philippine fauna, among others.
The speakers are wildlife biologist, Lisa Paguntalan, the executive director of the Philippine Biodiversity Conservation Foundation, Inc., and ornithologist, Rolly Urriza, of the NMP Zoology Division.
Learn the biodiversity in the Negros-Panay Faunal Region and on wetlands in the country, the native and introduced animal species in the Philippines – their differences and effects on biodiversity in a habitat, the conservation efforts in the Negros Occidental Coastal Wetlands Conservation Area, the works of the PBCFI, among others.
Discover the extensive Philippine Zoological Collection from the presentation of Marvene Santos, the officer-in-charge of the NMP Zoology Division.
WVFR is one of the world’s highest biodiversity conservation priorities. It is home to several critically endangered and threatened plants and animals. Conservation efforts are up against time, thus, the need to care for these faunas and their habitats.
The webinar is FREE.
The webinar will be aired live on the National Museum Western Visayas FB page. Message or email us at nmiloilo@yahoo.com for queries.
