Art MADE Public goes to Davao!

Art MADE Public concludes its celebration in the bold and bright City of Davao!

In line with a special traveling exhibit, Art MADE Public presents three of the most acclaimed speakers in the field of architecture and design. Renowned Heritage Architect, Architectural Critic and Art Historian Ar. Gerard Rey Lico will be discussing “Philippine Built Heritage Amidst War and Conflict”. Meanwhile, IDr. Wilhemina Garcia, founder of JunkNot Creative will present her experiences and practices on Social Entrepreneurship in Design. Upholding his father’s legacy, Ar. Angelo Miguel “Gelo” Mañosa will delve into Sustainable Tropical Architecture and the processes of the Mañosa & Co.

A total of 4.5 CPD Units will be provided to attending architects.

Admission is free.

 

Ar. Gerard Lico is an architectural critic and art historian. He teaches at the College of Architecture, University of the Philippines at Diliman. He completed his BS Architecture, MA in Art History and PhD in Philippine Studies at the University of the Philippines. He is the multi-awarded author of publications on Philippine architecture and cultural studies, designer and curator of architectural exhibitions, and produced and directed a series of documentaries on Philippine built environments such as Lunan, Masterbuilders, and Deco Decoded. He is the author of “Edifice Complex: Power, Myth, and Marcos State Architecture” (2003) and “Arkitekturang Filipino: A History of Architecture and Urbanism in the Philippines” (2008) among others.

Apart from his academic and professional practice, he held office as Head of the National Committee on Architecture and Allied Arts of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (2007-2013) and as the University Architect of the University of the Philippines (2008-2014). He served as the Consulting Architect (2015-2018) for the restoration of the Manila Metropolitan Theater and presently a Consulting Architect for the City of Valenzuela in the Philippines.

 

IDr. Wilhelmina “Willie” S. Garcia is a graduate of Interior Design at St. Scholastica’s College, Manila. She is a licensed interior designer and a member of PIID (Philippine Institute of Interior Design) since 2006. She attended social entrepreneurship at Youth Encounter Sustainability (YES) held in Armenia, Colombia.

In 2007, she won the Grand Prize in the Interior Design Category “The Environment Shapes You” by Metrobank Arts and Design Excellence (MADE). She is an advocate of the environment and continues to create art pieces as her means to lessen wastes in different communities through her social enterprise JunkNot Eco Creatives. Her beautiful furniture pieces and accessories have been exhibited in different events in the Philippines and even abroad – Paris Design Week, Belgium and Germany.

 

Ar. Angelo Miguel “Gelo” Mañosa is a graduate of Architecture from the University of Santo Tomas. In 2010, he won the Grand Prize for the Metrobank Art and Design Excellence Architecture Competition. He is currently the CEO of Mañosa & Co.

Known for his crusade for green building in the Philippines, he has traveled from Bali to Vienna in the course of his work. His father, National Artist Ar. Francisco “Bobby” Maňosa, renowned for putting to practice his dictum, “Filipino architecture for Filipinos,” left him a legacy that he has used as a foundation on which he built his own design practice. He adopts the best practices of sustainable architecture through water conservation, renewable energy, and indoor air quality.
