Arts eXpress: CCP Children’s Biennale

CCPs online creative expression biennale for children in November 2020.

Creativity is one of the core competencies for learners of the 21st century. CCP began focusing many of its programs for children, to enable them to express themselves through the arts.

The COVID 19 situation challenged the children’s access to live art programs and activities. It limited many of their opportunities to experience the art forms.

However, the online platform presented an opportunity to reach to these children who are, after all, the digital natives of technology.  The express ride of the digital world can provide children with the journeys to the different artistic experiences, art making, artists exchanges, creative expressions and showcases.

Artists whose works are for children will likewise have the opportunity to create, collaborate and share their content in this festival. At the same time, parents, families, guardians, teachers, etc. can join in enabling the children’s creativity. Together with the kids, they can explore the wonderful world of art.

Batang Sining is part of CCP’s Program for children.  Originally conceptualized by the late Rene Villanueva and Hermie Beltran, Batang Sining started as a workshop in 1989, primarily focused on introducing the child to the different art forms, and discovering for themselves their own creative expressions.

Dr. Luis Gatmaitan, Amihian Bonifacio-Ramolete, Vim Nadera, Edna Mae Landicho, Frank Rivera, Buddy Ching, Eric Rosales, Posh Develos, Magel Cadapan, Edilberto Cruz, are some of the artists who have joined as the project’s resource persons. Through the years, Batang Sining has evolved from being a children’s summer art workshop, an arts strategy for healing, to arts education training for primary and secondary school students.

With the Arts eXpress CCP Children’s Biennale, CCP also launches the CCP Batang Sining Facebook page as a platform for creative expression and collaboration opportunities of arts content for children, parents/guardians and teachers.

YOUR LIFE AS STORY: Write & Draw Your Own Family History

Meet Gabriela Dans Lee and Adrian Panadero, the co-creators of  Cely’s Crocodile

Is there a story in your family that you’re dying to write about? Did Lolo or Lola tell you about something that happened that you’re excited to share with others? Welcome to the world of creative nonfiction, where true stories happen. Author Gabriela Dans Lee did just that: she sat down and wrote a true story about her family. Not only did she write about what her grandmother did during World War II, she even won a prize for it! If you are a young, aspiring writer or artist, eight years old or older, you can, too.

Join us as we launch our new picture book CELY’S CROCODILE: The Art and Story of Araceli Limcaco Dans. Then learn to write your own true story with the help of creative prompts from author and creative writing professor Gabriela Dans Lee (2019 PBBY Salanga Prize Winner). Let artist Adrian Panadero (2019 PBBY Alcala Prize Winner) show you how to draw vivid characters plucked out of your own life experiences.
