The global waste trade has clear implications for countries in the ASEAN region. Despite the existing international & national legal frameworks, SEA countries continue to be at risk of the influx of legal & illegal waste from the developed and industrialized world, with current legal and policy actions insufficient to stop the entry of illegal waste.
It is in this context that the ASEAN Waste Trade Report was prepared & commissioned by the EcoWaste Coalition. The report provides a survey of regional efforts to recognize and address the issues of pollution and waste management, including progress on the ratification and acceptance of the Basel Ban Amendment in the ASEAN region, and a comprehensive scanning and analysis of relevant laws and policies on the waste trade in the region.
We have invited Atty. Gregorio Rafael Bueta, the lead author of the ASEAN Waste Trade Report, to discuss the highlights of the report and initiate possible unified regional actions in addressing waste trade issues and concerns in the SEA region.
The event will be streamed LIVE on all partner organizations’ pages. See you there!
