AURUM
AURUM, a chemical element most commonly known as gold, is the most widely used currency exchange or money in the modern world. It is the standard for which wealth is measured and fortunes are made. It is also one of the most beautifully colored metals in the world and is highly prized material in jewelry and adornments. In history, gold has always been valued and cherished for its outstanding qualities; thus the color with similar hues is commonly referred to as “golden“, to differentiate it from gold, the element.
It is by this love for the color gold that this show came about. The color gold has been in use in many industries and is a favorite among painters and sculptors as well.
Putting together artists who work primarily with this color is the narrative of the exhibit – exploring its applications, textures, styles, possibilities and creative value in art.
The fluidity of the works of L. Latosa and M. Wong incorporates the metallic color in similar yet varied ways in their paintings, while sculptors R. Buxani, N. Castrillo and R. Castrillo will be using brass to bring out the qualities of metallic gold in more familiar and unexpected ways. By bending and welding the sheets like it is clay; the sculptors elevates and refines the metal to artistic heights.
