First International Competition Section for AI Movies Among All Korean Film Festivals Introduced!
The 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN, Festival Director Shin Chul) is calling for submissions for the very first international competition section for AI movies established among all international Korean film festivals – ‘Bucheon Choice: AI Films’. The submission period starts on May 13 and ends on May 26.
Applicable for works that were produced using AI technology in one or more elements: text(script), audio or video
BIFAN, which garnered attention this year by its rebranding as “BIFAN+ AI” and the unveiling of an unconventional official festival poster, has announced the detailed regulations for submissions to the international competition section ‘Bucheon Choice: AI Films’. In addition to the technical aspects of AI, the winners will be selected by emphasizing the harmony between the artistic value and the message of the film. The new section aims to discover and foster young talents while showcasing the possibilities of AI movies.
Submissions for the competition will be accepted from May 13, 10:00 AM, to May 26, 12:00 PM, for a total of fourteen days. Considering the production method and the current state of AI film technology commonly in use, a maximum running time of 10 minutes is recommended. A submitted work must have been produced using AI technology in one or more essential element, such as text (script), audio, or video. It could have also be been produced entirely using AI technology. In addition, proof of the use of AI technology, such as video recordings, screen captures, descriptions, must be submitted. The submitted works are finally selected by the BIFAN Program Selection Committee through the evaluation of narrative factors such as cinematic quality, artistry, and originality, in conjunction with the utilization of AI technology. Awards such as the Best of Bucheon, Audience Award, and others will be handed out. Detailed information can be found on the website (https://www.bifan.kr).
“We decided to introduce a competition section for AI films in anticipation of the creative possibilities that AI technology, which is developing day by day, will bring to the film industry. BIFAN is taking the lead in discovering and supporting young talents, and we anticipate the international competition section for AI films to infuse fresh vitality into both the film industry and the festival”, explained Festival Director Shin Chul.
Beside establishing the international competition section ‘Bucheon Choice: AI Films’, this year’s BIFAN, which will focus on AI’s impact on video content production, will invite international leading professionals in AI film production to speak at a conference during the festival. In addition, an AI film production workshop will be held where participants will receive guidance and hands-on experience from world-class mentors, expecting to create synergies through the fusion of existing businesses.
The 28th BIFAN will be held in Bucheon from July 4th to 14th, 2024. BIFAN, which will hold its opening ceremony at Bucheon City’s landmark Bucheon Arts Center for the first time this year, is expected to showcase a diverse range of works from around the world, allowing audiences to experience global trends. Furthermore, the newly launched ‘BIFAN+ AI’ is expected to mark a new milestone of Bucheon City as a hub for the high-tech media industry.
