Roy Rosatase
Opening
8 November 2020
Secret Fresh Gallery
Ronac Art Center, Ortigas Ave, 1502 San Juan, Philippines
Now on his third solo exhibition, Roy Rosatase unveils his latest suite of paintings which expresses his personal faith but translated into his own artistic imaginary that combines classical sculptural forms with pop colors and photorealism. In By Faith, the artist retells the narrative of Christ’s second coming and situates this in an urban, contemporary setting. He employs a range of figures and symbols from Christian art—from crosses and halos to angels and religious statuary—and renders them in luminous, bright colors as if viewed in moments of vision or revelation.
Roy Rosatase attended the Technological University of the Philippines in Manila. He participated in several group exhibitions before mounting first solo show in 2018. He also received recognitions from various art competitions, including the Grand Prize in the 2012 PNOC Students Art Competition. His meticulous, photorealistic figuration commonly portrays life in the urban fabric and how people navigate its intricacies.
This show is curated by Ruel Caasi, in collaboration with the Secret Fresh Gallery X The Working Animals Art Projects (TWA).
The exhibition opens on 8 November at Secret Fresh Gallery, Ronac Art Center, Ortigas Avenue, San Juan
