Altro Mondo Arte Contemporanea is proud to present CARPE ARTEM a solo exhibition featuring the works of PANDY AVIADO.
Pandy Aviado is refining, not repeating. That’s the thought at the core of his newest solo exhibition, Carpe Artem. The exhibit was three years in the making, coming into fruition at the height of the pandemic, when the world was on lockdown.
The time off allowed him to review his past work in order to define his present and future artistic preoccupations and push the limits of his creative capabilities.
It was during this period that he witnessed firsthand the bigger role that an artist plays in the world–how it ushered in hope to the people, keeping us mentally afloat in desperate times and making intolerable conditions otherwise bearable.
It’s with this renewed sense of purpose that Aviado approaches the work in his exhibit. He isn’t content to paint what’s expected of him, instead treading beyond the boundaries of his art-making practice to reach the most refined, confident version of his aesthetic possible.
Each artwork emerges as a revelation–of what Aviado himself is capable of, of the infinite possibilities of creative expression, and of art as a whole.
Virgilio “Pandy” Aviado is one of the leading pioneers of contemporary printmaking in the country. In addition to traditional printing methods, Pandy Aviado promotes new printing techniques and processes, making printmaking more accessible to young people.
He became one of the founding college members of the Ateneo Art Gallery (AAG) Arts Club formed by Emmanuel Torres (AAG Curator). His first solo show at Luz Gallery (1967) received widespread acclaim, which led to Fernando Zobel offering him a study grant. As a result of his excellence and dedication to the art of printmaking, he was awarded the Gawad Tanglaw ng Lahi award in 2018.
This April 2023, in addition to his one man show at the Altro Mondo Creative Space, Aviado will also be part of a group exhibit at Gallery Sansu in South Korea.
