May 21 to 31, 2019
Level 3 Veranda, Robinsons Galleria
EDSA corner Ortigas Avenue, Quezon City
Years, decades, generations, centuries have passed and part of our cycle of life is summer. This age-old temperate season has evolved in the 21st century into something more than just a too-bright yellow sun streaming rays onto a field of sunflowers. Population growth, scarcity of natural resources and ecological imbalance are some of the unfortunate results of one too many neglected summers.
Colors of Summer pays its own homage to this famous metereological period with a two-fold focus.
Firstly, it was conceptualized to be a meeting of visual artists from various cities in the country. Banding together for a vacation getaway? Not quite, but close. It will showcase a choice collection of botanical, landscape and conceptual art – each artist’s dominant signature being highlighted with deft lines, curves and angles.
More than that, this singular exhibit features pieces that employ a sophisticated color palette – more than just the usual ‘summer’ colors – rich deep hues blending warmly or contrasting plentifully with the expressively mellow.
Just like a refreshing gulp from an ice cold drink, the art will quench the rising temperatures of patrons and spectators alike – satisfying one’s need for artistic expression expressed through individualistic styles.
Secondly, it is meant to resonate a soothing form of reminder (rather than a indignant protest) for us to realize that summer isn’t really about the ‘marketing’ being recycled to us, such as beaches (pollution) or shopping (waste).
By persuading us to look and experience this beauty we already possess (even through 2D), it is the artists’ hope that the viewers would appreciate more deeply, and eventually, develop care and compassion for our summers.
