Cris Villanueva

Propelled by polarities and extremes of changing realities, Villanueva presents a divergent array of works that collectively appears to be done post haste and without direction.
When his lines and colors are transported from a computer tablet or any tool to a fixed surrogate space usually reserved for painting it betrays his partiality to this rite of applying paint and addressing his motives.

The lift thrives on the flaws which find its way prominently in the canvas.

Disorderly haste and confusion is subdued by a succession of distractions on layers of graphics icons, strokes, erasures and an untold scheme that ultimately almost always change. Eminently making a sequel to his shows are the hand painted bubbles, erasures, sprayed paint, drips and other favorite misleading clues are key to his real goal.

His pieces act as a spurious clue or surrogate for a reality whose actuality perpetually swings.
