Why do artists paint?

Well, because there are just some things in life that can’t be put down in words. Instead, they set up their easel, dust off their canvas, and paint with raw emotion — bringing them into a world no word has neither reached nor expressed.

Ironically, we have one word to encapsulate the theme of this exhibit: Fervid. While one word will never do justice to a painting, this word captures what exactly fuels and motivates these artists: a never ending desire to express their raw emotions on canvas, whatever the cost, whatever the consequence. They leave the standard, comforting lives of conformity and set out for the brave yet rarely rewarding world of art. The artists presented in this exhibit are passionate, brave, and most of all, fervid.

The word fervid came into popular use among the Latin speaking nations in the 16th century. Fervere, how the word was expressed in the latin language, meant simply “hot, glowing”.

Rarely, used in our modern, day-to-day language, the word has once again found a home in our exhibit. If there’s one thing we can describe our roster of artists, it’s exactly that: Fervid. They are hot and glowing with artistic prowess and are eager to lay it all out on the canvas. These artists, holed up in their homes just like everyone else, have decided to share with us all something beautiful — their intimate portrayals of life, beauty, and truth
through the visual artform.
