LET’S CELEBRATE THE SPIRIT OF FLORES DE MAYO!

“Flores de Mayo ni Birhen Maria” is a collaboration between UST Artlets ‘75 which is celebrating its Golden Jubilee in 2025 and drybrush Gallery.

“Flores de Mayo ni Birhen Maria” is an excerpt of the traditional Santacruzan, a procession of sagalas (plural from of sagala, little girl or maiden dressed in royal garbs sa gowns etc.) prevalent in Maytime which is a Western influence when Queen Helena of Constantinople discovered the True Cross with son Constantine!

“Flores de Mayo ni Birhen Maria” is a derivative and a mini Santacruzan called Sagalahan by the townsfolk of Lopez town in Quezon Province! This time, though, a singular sagala named Reyna de las Estrellas parades within the gallery space of drybrush Gallery SM North Edsa, Interior Zone to recite a poetry of veneration called lua/luwa to the Blessed Virgin Mary, Queen of Flowers, the essence of May as the month of blooms and foliages. Sagala/Reyna de las Estrellas Angel Evangelista recites the lua/luwa, a poem influenced by the Ilonggos to the Tagalogs.

You’re invited to celebrate and honor this cultural and religious with us at drybrush Gallery SM North Edsa, Interior Zone tomorrow at 4pm!

See you there!
