Darren Bacani’s works explore a specific moment that precedes interpretation — the moment when the world rushes the gaze with cascading impressions that the mind will try to bring together into expressive, conceptualized images. For his first solo show titled “Further”, he lets the viewers’ gaze remain in this moment of uncertainty, to lose themselves in a disassembled world.

“The works are about mindscapes,” Bacani explains. “It’s a random seed on different landscapes or mindscapes where the subjects seem to be floating, sinking, wandering, and contemplating. In this ‘realm’, the space is vast enough for the mind to explore. There are various elements in the works when viewed intimately and are intended to navigate the viewer in a more abstract terrain,” the artist concludes.

Darren Bacani’s aim is not to depict an imitation of life but a scene falling apart into its atomic components. It is this type of unique experience that Bacani wants to share with the audience, allowing them to steer aimlessly until it evokes a personal memory. “Further” serves as an inspection to sporadic glimpses of life eliciting a deeper connection to the subconscious.

Jovin Darren Ramos Bacani (b. 1998) is a Filipino interdisciplinary artist hailing from Laguna. Formally trained as a Multimedia Artist at the Malayan Colleges of Laguna, he is also a Filmmaker, Photographer, and Graphic Designer. The focus of his work as a visual artist is both personal and universal, juxtaposing aspects of traditional art form with contemporary concepts.
