Layers of emotions come into bloom in Miguel Paulo Borja’s 7th Solo Show. He veers away from his familiar (dark) portraits and focuses on the innocent and savage beauty of flowers. GET WELL SOON explores the meaning and narrative surrounding flowers. They can be celebratory; they can offer sympathy for loss. But most of all, flowers can be hopeful. Borja aims to capture them in gestures much like his portraits. This is no still life. These are stems, petals, and colors exploding with life and grief and mortality, because as Borja points out, “The flower has become a reflection of our beautiful yet temporary nature.” In the midst of the pandemic, Borja wants to offer us all solace. The desire to heal. Get well soon, everyone.
