Manila as we know historically was the seat of the Spanish colonial power in the Philippines (and Southeast Asia) for more than 300 years from the 16th to 19th century CE. However, we also know that the story of this city did not begin from there on, as Spanish accounts tell of a flourishing community in the area upon their arrival in the islands. This talk will take you to the history of an “older” Manila through archaeology; how the evidence from excavations and further studies helped reveal the life and times of our nation’s capital before the arrival of the western colonizers.

Join us this Friday night August 21, 6:30pm with museum archaeologist and co-founder of Tuklas Pilipinas, Taj Vitales, as we talk about the history of pre-colonial Manila, as evidenced through archaeological excavations in various places like Intramuros, Santa Ana, Tondo, and more. Ask you most pressing history and heritage questions to Taj on Facebook Live!
