Hope is a series of paintings that represent the duality of perspectives in response to the current events happening in the world.

Jerry Buccat’s work reveals a fatalistic and cynical approach to the current conditions of the world. His canvases admonish the environmentally destructive circumstances that pervade our society and how this led to the creation of the deadly virus that’s wreaking havoc in every corner of the globe today.

On the other hand, Herwin Buccat’s work chooses to dwell on the positive, particularly on the significance of hope. His viewpoint reveals a system of reason and consequence, and a benevolent side to Mother Nature that will inevitably heal us and in turn, heal itself. Hope manifests itself as a powerful weapon against the virus and an opportunity for rehabilitation.

Both artists intend for the exhibit to serve as a wakeup call and a beckoning to listen to the environment we continue to destroy, but that which sustains us and gives us life.

Jerry O. Buccat is a visual artist whose work showcases a exquisite aesthetic that emanates from unseen sanctuaries whithin mother earth. His advocacy calls on his viewers to never forget to safeguard our mother nature and the stories of our childhood. He was a finalist at the 11th GSIS Art Competition for Sculpture in 2015 and an honorable mention at the 2017 GSIS National Art Competition. He has exhibited various galleries in museums in Metro Manila, such as Ayala Museum, Arte Pintura, Provenance Art Gallery, and Eskinita Art Gallery.

Herwin O. Buccat’s work draws from his background as an agricultural engineer from Pangasinan, Buccat, and utilizes metaphors of the complex and evolving bond between the flesh and the transient space it occupied. On a metaphysical level, this offers opportunities for the viewers to re-imagine their relationship to nature. He was an honorable mention at the 10th GSIS Art Competition for Sculpture in 2014 and a finalist at the 8th GSIS Art Competition for Painting in 2012.

The exhibit will not have a formal opening but it will be available to view in person in our gallery from July 23rd to August 26th, 2020. There will be an online exhibit launch on July 24th, 5pm.
