Modeka Art is pleased to announce the group show entitled “Interdependence of Being”. The exhibition is a take on connection – be it human or mechanical, imagined or real.

Consistently throughout history, human beings have naturally been social creatures and have utilized social groups and gatherings to survive and thrive for centuries. At present, connection has become more than just a means of survival and has taken form in various ways. For instance, finding identity in faith that transcends the self and promotes a sense of community between believers, the interrelation between man and creation through nurturing the natural environment, or even one’s dependence with technology.

For Lui Gonzales, the interrelation between people is crucial as this has great influence over the choices people make and in which direction in life they choose to take. “Kung kanino tayo dumidikit magbabago at magbabago takbo ng buhay natin dahil sa kanila.”

(“Who we choose to be around will change and our lives will also change because of them.”)

The connection made between two souls could either have a positive or negative influence to the human psyche. It is in this sense that Lynyrd Paras believes human connection can have a direct impact on one’s reason for living.

Eugene Jarque considers connection as something that creates balance. In relation to his creative process, he starts with gestural paintings to capture a subject, moment, idea, etc. Through slicing, collage, and assemblage, the paintings turn into raw materials to create his final art piece. He uses balance in order to connect the elements.

Mac Valdezco correlates her works to the connection of fantasy or unreal things. The nagging lust or desire of getting lost in a fantasy world wherein playing, wandering, and adventuring for as long as one wants is attained until wherever one can reach freedom.

Featuring artworks by Eugene Jarque, Lui Gonzales, Lynyrd Paras, & Mac Valdezco.
