In his seventh solo exhibition, titled “Light in Us,” Pongbayog offers a personal glimpse into his intimate perspective of his deep connection between faith, light, and artistic expression.
The heart of this exhibition is a deep inspiration drawn from the biblical verse Matthew 5:16 “Let your light shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
Like his usual play of light and shadows in his palette of monochromatic colors, Pongbayog dives deep into his spiritual illumination and paints the canvas with stories of his reflections. For this exhibition, Pongbayog showcases his new series with a style and concept that merges some abstractions to express his ideas more.
Using the combination of direct and indirect approach in monochrome, the intricacy of each painting and the detail of each stroke shows the skill and the genius of Pongbayog. We remain mesmerized and in awe as we reflect on his “reflections” shown in this play of dark and light that transcends the boundaries of conventional art.
The artist’s core message in this series shows that regardless of any religious belief, his meditations reflected on canvas hopefully urge people to always choose to do good and have faith that everything will be fine.
