“Representation doesn’t come remotely close to describing the viscerally intimate shock of what it feels like when you encounter a book that seems to represent you: the language you speak, the people you know, the town you call home. It just makes you feel: real.”
— Elaine Castillo
The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Arts Management Program Management of Performing Arts class presents:
Look Homeward, an experiential poem-as-screenplay adapted from Carlos Bulosan’s America is in the Heart, where history is revisited and given a Hollywood ending. In this adaptation, while immersing all senses through a journey to 1940s California, we showcase a part of Philippine history that emphasizes literature and education as a way to combat our oppressors. Watch and experience the adventures and misadventures of Allos as he journeys the audience into the gripping tale of struggle, defeat, hope, and what it means to be patriotic in a foreign land.
