Cartellino proudly presents Menarche, a group exhibition in commemoration of National Women’s Month, opening this Tuesday, 12 March 2024, in Cartellino’s physical space.
The show takes off from the biological concept of ‘menarche’ (me-nar-kee): a rite of passage into womanhood, often limiting the right to become a woman only within physiological terms.
In working with fourteen women artists whose lives and creative practices cut across various forms and contexts, the exhibition stands as a refusal to define womanhood only insofar as body, blood, and biology will extend their generosity. For it is one’s histories—artistic, personal, whichever may—that mark one’s womanhood, and therefore by such a woman is defined.
Cartellino is located inside Galerie Stephanie at 6/F East Wing of Shangri-la Plaza, Mandaluyong City.
