Instituto Cervantes Celebrates Diversity in Orgullo 2024

Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish Cultural center, is thrilled to announce Orgullo 2024, an annual celebration of diversity, equality, and LGBTQ+ rights. The event Orgullo 2024: Seas quien seas, sé is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 6, 2024, 4:30 p.m onwards at the Pop-Up Library of Ayala Triangle Gardens, Makati City. This year’s event promises to be the most vibrant and inclusive yet, bringing together community members, allies, and supporters from all ways of life.

Orgullo 2024 will feature a variety of activities and festivities aimed at fostering unity and celebrating individuality. Highlights of the event will include:

An Open Mic Recital at 6 pm, in which participants will be able to showcase their creativity, talent and spirit of the LGBTQ+ community. Recite a poem and show your pride! This event is open to everyone, attendees and participants are encouraged to register early through this link: https://forms.office.com/e/p9vKaGHx3B

The recital will be enriched with live music, dance performances, interesting and fun trivia games for everyone to enjoy, and a DJ set to cap off the night

Before the recital, at 4:30pm, Instituto Cervantes will present the round-table discussion ¿Entiendes? Nuevos tiempos, nuevos lenguajes. In this debate, Filipino linguist Jeff Roxas from UP Diliman will discuss with Spain’s Beatriz Jimeno and Gabriel Alvarado, professor of Sociolinguistics at Universidad de Chile, how current Spanish is adapting to social changes in terms of gender and the “problems” generated by language inclusivity.

According to the Spanish cultural center, “Instituto Cervantes is excited to bring Pride 2024 back to Manila and continue the tradition of celebrating love, diversity, and acceptance. This event is not just a celebration but a powerful statement of solidarity and support for LGBTQ+ individuals everywhere. Orgullo 2024 aims to create a safe and inclusive environment for everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or background. It encourages unity, visibility, and advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights while celebrating the progress made towards equality.”

Whether you are a long-time supporter or new to the movement, Orgullo 2024 invites you to join in the festivities and stand proud in support of diversity and inclusivity.
