The Metropolitan Museum of Manila banners 2021 with a retrospective exhibition of the celebrated Spanish-Filipino artist Betsy Westendorp titled Passages: Celebrating the Artistic Journeys of Betsy Westendorp.The virtual exhibit opening via Zoom and Facebook live is scheduled for 29 January, Friday at 4:00pm. The online event will be graced by the presence of the esteemed artist herself Betsy Westendorp who just turned 93 years old last December 2020. The online event will be hosted by by multi-awarded broadcast journalist Karen Davila.
Curated by Dannie Alvarez with exhibition notes by art critic Cid Reyes, Passages: Celebrating the Artistic Journeys of Betsy Westendorp features over 100 works spanning more than half a century of her artistic practice varying from portraits of Spanish and Filipino luminaries, majestic landscapes and seascapes of Spain and Philippines. The exhibit highlights her prominent works of floral paintings depicting colorful spectra of endemic orchids and tropical flowers. Her mystic renditions of her Atmosferografia series magnify the celestial sphere and heavenly skies in her evolving style towards abstraction. The entire exhibition coherently encapsulates the pulse and heart of Westendorp’s life journey through the years.
