Art Lounge Manila presents “Path to Serenity” a solo exhibition of Fred Tan.

Fred Tan’s works have always been reflective. Often, his work is the result of contemplating on his feelings with regard to personal experience, as a way of release, and a path to transcending limitations imposed by circumstances. In “Paths to Serenity”, Fred Tan takes into account not just the personal, but also the societal. The pandemic, the war in Ukraine, and various crises around the globe affect us personally, despite the distance and seeming alienness of it all. We are all interconnected, it seems.

“Path to Serenity” is tied up with this interconnectedness. At the deepest level, disorder and violence, no matter how far, affects us all. And conversely, finding personal peace, no matter how insignificant it seems, affects even those far away from us. Tan’s works of painting as a form of detachment reminds us of the importance of finding our own peace in daily life. Choosing acceptance and forgiveness over greed and anger; choosing compassion over intolerance and apathy brings peace not just to us, but to society at large.
